Launched in April 2018, Vivo V9 created the right buzz, because it was officially the first device then to come up with the display notch under 25k. Asus is expected to follow suit, and Oppo has already launched F7 since then. So, how good or bad is Vivo V9? We take a look at what you can really expect from this smartphone.

The features at a glance

V9 is fueled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 2.2GHz Octa-core processor, with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The internal memory is further expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card. The device gets a 6.3-inch FHD+ touchscreen with resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and 19:9 ratio aspect ratio. The display covers the entire frontal panel of the screen, while the aluminum body gives a sturdy feel. For camera, we have a 16 MP + 5 MP setup for the rear and a 24 MP front shooter for selfies. It runs on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 and gets Android 8.1 out of the box out of the box. For power, there’s the 3260mAh non-removable battery. Connectivity options are standard and all sensors are in place as expected.

Appreciable factors

Vivo V9 is one of the best smart phones as far as the display and cameras are concerned. The selfie shooter is particularly good, and we used it effectively for selfies both indoors and outdoors. In all fairness, 4 GB RAM does feel like a bummer for the price, but there are no lags in performance. We also liked the FHD+ touchscreen display, which literally is the best we could find for the segment.

What could have been better?

We expected at least 6GB of RAM and probably a better battery. The device doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, which is again an anticipated thing for the price.

Buying V9

If you want a smartphone that does has decent hardware and commendable display and cameras, this is the one to go for. Vivo V9 worked great when we used it for extensive gaming with Asphalt and Temple Run 2, and for low lighting, the front camera does take good selfies. While certain things as mentioned above could have been more, it is very similar to Oppo F7, if you are just interested in comparing both.
